SITCOM DINER| NEELANKARAI

Sitcom was the first to bring the goth theme to Chennai with their activated charcoal ‘Goth’ Ice Cream when they launched a couple of months ago. This has worked to their advantage because the theme of the current Star Wars movie is black and red. This review is based on my recent visit when they had a special ‘Star Wars’ themed menu.

THE DRINKS
The Monster Shake is quite unique with a very mild grainy texture because of the charcoal. It’s got a whole of items in it like the red velvet brownie, macaroons, charcoal ice cream. If you’re someone who’s drawn to shakes then you must try this. You will enjoy it. Priced at 400/- INR it is totally worth it.

Out of the 3 beverages that were served I enjoyed Ben Kanobi the best. With a faint hint of orange flavour, this stood out among the rest.

STARTERS
The battered onion rings were everyone’s favourite. I was surprised to find the onions quite moist and tender despite the crust being so crispy.

I didn’t quite care much for the Fried Mozzarella cheese sticks or the Panko Chicken. The dish that really impressed me was the Bbq Wings.
The Bbq wings were very tasty and smoking hot. The meat was juicy and delicious. Coming from a person who does not enjoy wings, I think they nailed this one.

THE MAINS
The Darth Noodles is a must try. The black noodles may not look very appetizing for many but just go for it because it’s ‘simply delicious’ especially the vegetarian version with the mushrooms.

The Darth burger has some juicy meat with omelette sandwiched between fresh lettuce, tomatoes and black bun made from activated charcoal. You can choose between paneer, chicken or a beef burger. Served along with a portion of fries, the burger is so filling.

The Death Star Pizza is quite a show to watch. They bring something like a dome to your table and add a bit of alcohol on the dome and light it up. Later they remove that portion and serve the pizza. The pizza looks very striking with a black base topped with vegetables and if you prefer non vegetarian then chicken and pineapple. The pizza tastes great and is seasoned well.

DESSERTS
Darth Chocolate Spaghetti is Pretty interesting. The spaghetti is made with a dash of activated charcoal again. The ice cream is quite tasty and the coconut chocolate balls tastes very similar to ‘Bounty’ the chocolate.

My favourite was the Galaxy Ice Cream Sunday. The dessert actually looked like the ‘milky way’ with a beautiful blend of colours visible on the outside. Topped with red velvet brownie crumbs, coconut chocolate balls and scoops of ice cream, I simply enjoyed it. I really liked how balanced all of them tasted.

IN A NUTSHELL
Although they are no longer running the ‘Star Wars’ themed menu, Sitcom Diner is definitely worth a visit for their unique and promising menu.
